When does the winter Caribbean yachting season officially begin? If you ask any yacht broker, you’ll hear a common answer: The Antigua Charter Yacht Show. Each December, the Antigua Charter Yacht Show draws brokers from all over the world, who come to preview the Caribbean’s newest, most luxurious and renowned superyachts. This year, the show runs December 4-10.
What will be on display in Antigua? The show – now in its 56th year – draws more than 100 of the Caribbean’s finest motor yachts, sailing yachts and catamarans each year, and that’s why, for yacht brokers, it’s a must-attend event.
Not only does the show allow brokers to meet with crews and yacht owners; brokers also experience the on-board service, cuisine and amenities of each yacht. And these previews help brokers custom tailor the yachting experience to match their client’s preferences during the upcoming season.
The 2017 Antigua Charter Yacht Show – like in previous years – will be held in three gorgeous locations: Nelson’s Dockyard Marina, the Falmouth Harbor Marina, and the Antigua Yacht Club Marina. (It might be one of the most stunning settings for a yachting event.) And the show’s schedule is jam-packed with previews, competitions and informative sessions to help brokers prepare for the upcoming season.
The team from Worldwide Boat will be there to inspect and preview the Caribbean’s finest yachts firsthand, and we’ll be getting the insider’s scoop of what’s on offer for our clients in the 2017-2018 season. What are we looking forward to most?
The Charter Chef Competition
One of the Antigua Yacht Show’s must-experience events: The annual chef’s competition. Charter chefs from around the world compete to show who’s got the best culinary chops in the yachting world. But the competition isn’t just fun to watch (and taste) – it also provides brokers with an idea of which yachts offer the finest dining experiences.
This year, competitors will be tasked with creating a Caribbean-inspired Sunday Brunch using local ingredients and making an assortment of savoury and sweet fresh-baked goods. Stewardess creativity will also be judged, during the table-scaping competition.
Yacht Hops and Daily Yacht Viewing
The Antigua Show draws some of the finest superyachts in the Caribbean, and throughout the week, brokers are busy inspecting each yacht for quality, service and presentation. Yachts in attendance will be open for daily viewing – from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., December 5-9.
And in the evening, crews welcome brokers aboard for “yacht hops.” The nightly parties welcome guests to mingle, network and experience on-board service firsthand, and the hops give brokers a great preview of how each yacht stands out from the competition.
Caribbean Yachting Information Sessions
How have the Virgin and Leeward Islands faring after this devastating hurricane season? What options do charterers have in the middle and southern Caribbean? What’s new in yacht chartering in Patagonia, the Amazon and Antarctica?
These are just a few of the topics that will be covered during hour-long seminars at the show. In fact, info sessions are held every day (including a few days with multiple sessions). These seminars are invaluable for brokers, providing them with a chance to hear about the latest trends, up-and-coming destinations and technology that’s making wave in the yacht charter industry.
We’ll See You in Antigua
Bottom line, the team from Worldwide Boat is excited to attend this annual event (and experience beautiful Antigua, of course). Our team uses these yacht visits, previews and seminars to better tailor our recommendations for clients, and it’s invaluable for learning about what’s new and what’s best in Caribbean and Mediterranean yachting.
