The Maldives is home to more than 2,000 reefs, including approximately 900 accessible house reefs, making it one of the world’s premier destinations for snorkeling and scuba diving. Visibility can exceed 50 meters, while the islands’ extensive reef systems support exceptional marine biodiversity.

Many yacht charters in the region spend time around these spots, as the diving and snorkeling is some of the best in the world.

Banana Reef
Banana Reef
, also known as Gaathugiri, is one of the Maldives’ best-known reef systems. Its curved formation includes shallow and deeper sections, cliffs, caves, and vibrant coral gardens inhabited by triggerfish, butterflyfish, and other tropical species. Lankan Manta Point is particularly known for manta ray encounters from May through November.

Angsana
Located north of Baros, Angsana is a renowned house reef featuring the Rannamaari shipwreck, a former sand dredger that has become an artificial reef. Batfish, glassfish, squirrelfish, and giant moray eels inhabit the wreck site.

HP Reef
HP Reef
, or Girifushi Thila, is known as Rainbow Reef for its striking soft corals. Accessible from North Malé Atoll, the site supports triggerfish, glassfish, reef sharks, eagle rays, and barracuda.

Cocoa Corner
With fewer visitors than North Malé, South Malé Atoll offers more challenging diving. Cocoa Corner features a deep-water cliff, ravines, caves, and channels, while nearby sites offer opportunities to encounter larger sharks and explore the beginner-friendly Kuda Giri wreck.
