Monte Carlo Yacht Charters – Things to Do & See
Casino de Monte Carlo
Reigning as the most infamous casino in the Western Hemisphere, the 1910-built Casino de Monte Carlo is nothing if not ostentatious; fitting for a gambling house for the world’s most dedicated, and successful, elite. The setting of James Bond fans’ wildest dreams, this iconic locale invites affluent risk-takers to try out its poker tables, slot machines, French roulette, card games – and in the private, high-stakes rooms – even baccarat, blackjack, craps, and American roulette. Adding to its exclusivity are the house rules: every night, there is a strict coat-and-tie policy, and photos are forbidden in the gilded rooms.
Cathedral de Monaco
Built in 1875, on the same space that once held a 13th-century church dedicated to Saint Nicolas, the Cathedral de Monaco is one of Monte Carlo’s most sacred monuments. Constructed using white stones from La Turbia, it exudes elegance everywhere you turn; further evident in its interior, which includes a lavish altarpiece by the Niçois painter Louis Bréa, circa 1500, as well as a high altar and Episcopal throne, both made of Carrara white marble. The Cathedral de Monaco was the site of Prince Rainier III’s wedding to Princess Grace, and today, it houses their tombs.
Fort Antoine
Located on the northeastern tip of Le Rocher, colloquially known as “the Rock,” Fort Antoine is an early XVIII century fortress that boasts complete solitude. Dotted with cannonball pyramids, a watchtower, and pittosporum hedges, this piece of military architecture is used today as an outdoor theater. Fitted with semicircle seating, it typically holds some 350 guests during its summer concert series.
