Bahamas Golfing

The Bahamas are a golfer’s paradise. Incredible weather, championship courses, ocean vistas from the fairway – what more could you ask for? Whether you’re looking to hit the links with friends, or want to mark another course off your bucket list, you’ll find a golf course that suits your taste in the Bahamas.

Here, you’ll find a range of golfing experiences, from the ultra-exclusive golf course at Albany (where Tiger Woods is known to play), to the quieter clubs in the Exumas. The good news: Almost all of the Bahamas golf courses front turquoise waters, and with incredible year-round weather, you can hit the links in the Bahamas no matter the time of year.

Bahamas golfing

Where will you play on your next Bahamas charter? These five 18-hole golf courses offer the best of the best: Award-winning course designs, stunning ocean views, and all the amenities you could ask for, including world-class clubhouses and PGA-certified instructors. From New Providence, to the Out Islands in the Abacos and Exumas, these are the Bahamas’ must-visit golf courses:

1. Albany

Since 2010, the exclusive private resort community Albany has been rising on New Providence’s southwestern shore. And the resort offers a lot of luxury amenities, including 3- to 5-bedroom vacation homes designed by renowned architects, private beach clubs, a 71-slip mega yacht marina – but the golf course is certainly a standout.

Designed by PGA legend Ernie Els, the par-72, 18-hole championship course features a 7,400-yard links and desert-style design. When you play, you’ll find lush fairways framed by sand dunes and water features. What’s more: Tiger Wood and Ernie Els are both known to play here. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see PGA Tour pros stopping in, as the Hero World Challenge is hosted here each year (which Bubba Watson won in 2015).

Looking to just work on your stroke? Albany is home to a first-class practice facility. With a staff of PGA-certified instructors and a 400-yard driving range, you’ll be able to tune up your game before your round.

2. Ocean Club Golf Course

Tucked away on Paradise Island’s oceanside, the challenging and world-class Ocean Club Golf Course offers one of the Caribbean’s top golfing experiences. The Tom Weiskopf-designed par-72 course features 18 holes over 7,100 yards, and it’s everything you’d imagine from a Bahamian golf course.

Fronting the Atlantic and Nassau Harbor, the course offers stunning ocean views, palm-lined fairways, as well as crosswinds and water features that challenge even the most experienced golfers. Looking to get in some practice? The championship course also offers a practice facility, as well as a first-class clubhouse.

3. Emerald Bay Golf Course

Away from the bustle of Nassau and New Providence, you’ll find the Emerald Bay Golf Course on Great Exuma. Designed by 20-time PGA title winner Greg Norman, the award-winning course might be one of the most scenic in all of the Caribbean.

Emerald Bay features 18 holes – six of which front the stunning coastline. Hole No. 11, for instance, hugs the sapphire-blue Emerald Bay, and its view from the green will be one you won’t soon forget. What’s more: The course is the perfect for yacht charters. The resort features a 17-acre marina with 150 slips – the perfect spot to stop and play during your Exumas charter.

4. The Abaco Club at Winding Bay

Fancy Scottish-style links courses? Well, you’ll find that experience at The Abaco Club. In fact, the club features the only Scottish-style course in the tropics.

The private 7,182-yard course continually earns rave reviews for its masterful design. Course designers Tom Mackenzie and Donald Steel have blended the course with the natural surroundings: Oceanfront holes, jungle backdrops and rocky terrain. The course is a sight to behold.

Hole No. 18 – in particular – might be the Caribbean’s most stunning. The hole hugs the coastline, featuring a sheer 60-foot dropoff into the crashing waves below. When you’re cruising the Out Islands, this is the place to play.

5. Treasure Cay Golf Club

A classic Bahamian golf course – first opened in 1968 – Treasure Cay offers one of the Bahamas’s most laid-back golf experiences. No tee times are required, and thanks to its 6,985-yard design, you can play the entire course through in about three hours. That makes this course a perfect shoreside stop during while on charter.

But don’t let the laid-back atmosphere fool you. The course is stunning in its design. Featuring elevated greens framed by jungle foliage, Treasure Cay offers a classic tropical golf course aesthetic, and sits just a short cart ride from the ocean.
