What Is a Luxury Yacht Charter?
A luxury yacht charter is the private hire of a fully crewed yacht—including a motor yacht, sailing yacht, or mega yacht—for a set period. Since 2007, Worldwide Boat has arranged private yacht charters for clients worldwide, completing more than 6,000 charters across 93 destinations.

Sailing Yachts
Sailing yachts combine modern luxury and comfort with the natural rhythm of wind-powered cruising. Enjoy an unhurried private yacht charter through beautiful coastlines and tranquil anchorages, where the journey is as important as the destination.
Catamarans

What is a luxury yacht charter and how does it work?
A luxury yacht charter is the private hire of a crewed yacht, such as a motor yacht or sailing yacht, for a set period. You choose your destination and itinerary, while the professional crew handles life on board.
Worldwide Boat’s yacht charter brokers help match you with the right vessel based on your dates, group size, and travel preferences.
What’s the difference between a luxury yacht charter and a mega yacht charter?
The primary difference is size and the additional space, crew, cabins, and amenities that come with it. Mega yachts are generally 150 feet and larger, often offering larger crews, more guest accommodations, and amenities comparable to a boutique hotel.
A luxury yacht charter can range from a 90-foot sailing yacht for four guests to a 180-foot motor yacht for twelve. Ultimately, the right yacht depends less on its category than on your group, destination, itinerary, and preferred onboard experience.
How do I book a private crewed yacht charter?
Booking a private yacht charter is simple. Tell us your preferred destination, travel dates, number of guests, and approximate budget. Our charter specialists will use those details to help identify the right yacht and develop your charter options.
How much does a luxury yacht charter cost?
Luxury yacht charter costs vary based on the yacht’s size, itinerary, and season. Our luxury yacht charter cost guide explains charter pricing, what is included, what is not, and how to budget accurately for your private yacht charter.
What’s included in a crewed luxury yacht charter?
A crewed luxury yacht charter typically includes the yacht, professional crew, including the captain, chef, and deckhands, fuel, and water toys.
Additional costs usually include provisions, marina fees, and crew gratuity. Before you commit to a private yacht charter, your broker will provide a complete breakdown of included and additional expenses, including any areas where terms may be negotiable.
Can I choose my own itinerary on a private yacht charter?
Absolutely. A private yacht charter gives you the freedom to create your own itinerary. Choose where to go, when to move, and how long to stay rather than following a fixed cruise schedule.
Your captain will advise on weather, conditions, and logistics, while you decide how you want to spend your time. Prefer a fully planned experience? Simply share your destination and preferences, and your yacht charter broker can help create a tailored itinerary.
What occasions are luxury yacht charters best suited for?
A private yacht charter is ideal for anniversaries, milestone birthdays, corporate retreats, family reunions, honeymoons, and other important occasions.
The flexibility and privacy of a luxury yacht charter allow you to shape the experience around your guests, schedule, and celebration—without the constraints of a traditional vacation or cruise.
What are the best destinations for a luxury yacht charter?
The best luxury yacht charter destinations depend on the season and the experience you want.
- Bahamas & BVI: Popular year-round for their exceptional cruising conditions and appeal.
- Greece, Italy & South of France: Classic summer destinations known for their coastline, culture, and lifestyle.
- Alaska: A more remote choice offering dramatic landscapes and a distinctly different charter experience.
- Tahiti & French Polynesia: Exceptional natural scenery and some of the most spectacular cruising environments in the world.
Whether you are planning a Mediterranean summer, Caribbean escape, or remote adventure, a private yacht charter allows you to explore each destination at your own pace.
