The yacht charter industry is one of the largest industries in the US Virgin Islands. With crystal clear waters, fair winds, beautiful beaches and warm temperatures year around, the US Virgin Islands also have one of the best marine infrastructure outside the United States. The newly built USVI Yacht Haven Grande is the premier marina facility for mega yachts within the Caribbean and one of the nicest marinas in the world. The Marina offers world-class amenities including side-to berthing for yachts up to 450 feet and beyond and 18 foot concrete docks and piers. By building this marina, the US Virgin Islands have entered the world of luxury mega yachting.
The USVI are easily accessible from the major cities in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America and the Far East, which makes them a convenient destination for weekend or holiday getaways. The currency is US dollar and there are no custom duties, sales tax or luxury tax although there is a nominal hotel tax.
The best time for yacht charters there is from Mid December to Mid May. However, mild temperatures warm water and perfect breezes make them a great destination for yacht charters year around. The average daily temperature is about 80 degrees F (and in 70's most nights, with somewhat warmer and wetter summer months). Hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 with September being the most active month.
The Virgin Islands are also considered a water sports playground. There is nearly endless number of activities available to charterers, from boating and sailing, fishing, kayaking, dining and snorkeling, parasailing, windsurfing, surfing and kite boarding. There are almost 100 islands and cays in the Virgin Islands that are a short sail from one another. These islands offer protection from ocean swells and provide hundreds of protected coves and anchorages for swimming, snorkeling, diving, going ashore, or just lounging on the boat.
